DAY 1 – TRANSFER
from the airport (Budapest, Bratislava or Vienna) to Banska Bystrica. Dinner and overnight in Banska Bystrica.
DAY 2 – BANSKA BYSTRICA
a former mining town granted with royal privileges in 1225, a lively town, known today as the centre of the Slovak National Uprising during World War II. A visit to the Military Museum housed in a unique folk hat shaped building; walk through the Castle and the picturesque Town Square with numerous aristocratic and burgher houses. Dinner and overnight in Banská Bystrica.
DAY 3 – BANSKA BYSTRICA – ŠPANIA DOLINA – HRONSEK
Explore the mountain village of Špania Dolina – once famous for its copper mines, nowadays renowned for its original handmade bobbin lace. In the afternoon, we will proceed to Hronsek for a visit to the unique Protestant Church, to learn its history and why it was made entirely of wood. Dinner and overnight in Banska Bystrica.
DAY 4 – FROM THE LOW TATRAS TO THE HIGH TATRAS
Drive through the mountain pass of Donovaly – a very popular ski resort. After the excursion to the Demänovská Cave, located in the National Park of the Low Tatras, we will proceed to Skanzen Pribylina, an open-air museum of typical Slovak folk architecture. Dinner and overnight in the High Tatras.
DAY 5 – HIGH TATRAS
A full day’s excursion through the villages of the High Tatras – Štrbské Pleso, Starý Smokovec and Tatranská Lomnica. Trip by cable car to Skalnate Pleso. Dinner in the popular Shepherd’s Hut restaurant – Koliba. Overnight.
DAY 6 – SEE OUR TREASURES ON THE WAY FROM THE HIGH TATRAS TO KOSICE.
The drive to the East of our country via the Gothic Route will bring us to Levoča, once a rich centre of commerce. Its 14th century gothic St. Jacob’s Church – the home of the tallest gothic wooden altar in the world, carved by Master Paul of Levoča, attracts many visitors. Our journey will continue in the shade of the Spiš Castle ruins – the largest in Central Europe, via Prešov to Košice. Dinner and overnight in Košice.
DAY 7 – DAY IN KOSICE
Košice- the second largest city in Slovakia. Sightseeing walk of the old town, afternoon at leisure. Dinner at the oldest restaurant in the city and tasting of beer in the oldest brewery cellar in Central europe, overnight in Košice.
DAY 8 – DRIVE FROM THE EAST TO THE VERY WEST OF THE COUNTRY
along its southern border. Visit to the Manor House Betliar – once used as a hunting lodge, passing by the picturesque Castle Krasna Horka (built around 1320) to Nitra, the former centre of the Great Moravian Empire and Bratislava. Dinner and overnight in Bratislava.
DAY 9 – FULL DAY PROGRAMME IN BRATISLAVA
A full day’s sightseeing in the Capital of Slovakia, once the coronation seat of the Habsburgs, will include a visit to one of the most beautiful palaces in Bratislava. You will also have an opportunity to enjoy and explore the city independently. Dinner and overnight in Bratislava
DAY 10 – TRIP TO THE SMALL CARPATHIANS
On our journey today we will discover the surrounding area of the Capital. Our trip will take us to the village of Modra first. After the excursion to the hand made ceramics factory, we will continue to the Červený Kameň Castle (which means – the Red Stone Castle). Once a stronghold, now a national museum that houses a wealth of antique furniture, paintings and artefacts. It conceals the largest castle cellars in Europe. The day trip will conclude with wine tasting of excellent local wines. On our return to Bratislava, a farewell party with entertainment will bring this 10 day tour to a close. Overnight in Bratislava.
DAY 11
Coach transfer to the airport and departure home.
